As of 2021, the Ministry of Mines and Energy has issued gold mining licenses to seven companies in five provinces, according to Ung Dibula, Director General of the General Department of Mineral Resources.
The seven gold mining sites are located in Kratie Province, Preah Vihear Province, Mondulkiri Province, Ratanakiri Province, and Battambang Province.
An official from the Ministry of Mines confirmed that one of the seven gold mines in Mondulkiri province has already started gold refining, which is invested by Renaissance Minerals (Cambodia) Ltd, while the other six are preparing to build a gold refining production chain that may be operational in the future.
Since June, Renaissance Minerals (Cambodia) Limited, an Australian-listed subsidiary of Renaissance Minerals, has extracted about 800 kilograms of gold ore from its commercially licensed gold refinery in Keo Seima district. Mondulkiri Province.
This figure was announced by the Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen at the inauguration of the new office building of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction on November 8.
When fully operational, the gold mine will have the capacity to mine nearly 2 million tons of crude ore a year and extract 90 percent of the gold, which will attract a total of 462 workers, including Cambodians. About 427 people and 35 foreigners can earn about $185 million a year, of which the national budget revenue from royalties and direct taxes is about $40 million.
